This piece is the first of two sculptures referencing the Rancho Pacifico land grant area (now parts of Long Beach and Compton, CA). Formal elements suggest those found in Spanish Territorial style architecture. The central, facing plane is aligned east/west, the two diagonals pointing to sunset rising positions at Summer Solstice (Rt) and Winter Solstice (Lt).
